With the holidays coming up, layaway plans are coming back. I remember going to stores with my mother as a little girl and watching as she would pay a little bit toward her holiday gifts. The retailer saved the purchases in its storeroom, allowing her to make payments over time.
Stores began to phase out the concept of layaway when they began offering their own credit cards. But with budgeting and tightened wallets everywhere, layaway has again become a popular option. Interest isnt charged, although some stores do tack on a nominal layaway fee of about $5.
